Preorder the Galaxy s7

Spring has sprung and so has the new Galaxy S7! Every spring, I think about switching to a shiny and new Galaxy Samsung. This year more then ever before, I’m interested in the Galaxy S7. Maybe it’s because the phone is water proof, maybe it’s the expandable memory, the free Gear VR, or maybe it’s the amazing camera I keep hearing about. Well, whatever it is, Samsung has my attention. I played around with the phone for a couple hours and I’m fairly certain that it’s for me and for you.

The pictures on the screen look as if they are glowing. I wasn’t sure if the glow is from the HD display or the actual picture quality. So I took a picture to compare with my iPhone 6s. The camera captured detailed images more than my iPhone could. The picture on top is from the Galaxy s7 and the picture on the bottom is from the iPhone 6s. As you can see, the Galaxy S7 captures the actual color of the bear. This can be contributed to the fact that the GS7 captures more light (F1.7 lens and larger 1.4µm pixels on the image sensor). The GS7 picture is not only brighter, but there is greater detail and color.

When I hear electronics and water in the same sentence, I usually think to myself “nope”. The GS7 claims to be water resistant up to 1.5 meters (4.92 feet) for up to 30 minutes. So we tested Samsung’s claim. While playing a video we placed the phone is a bowl of water which felt very wrong. The phone continued to play the video as if it was dry. I kept the phone in the bowl for an entire hour. After pulling the phone out, I thought maybe it would have a glitch or would turn off, but the phone performed as if it had never been in water. I’m so impressed!

Lastly, one of the best parts of the Galaxy S7 is the Free Oculus Gear VR . Samsung has made claims in the past about bringing the future to today. With the Gear VR, they have validated that claim. The Gear VR is one of the most sophisticated pieces of technology I’ve ever owned. Words cannot describe what a mind blowing  experience the VR is. How would you like to sit in your living room, while diving deep into the Ocean to explore  whales and sharks. Wearing the Gear VR feels like you’re in a planetarium. You are surrounded by the environment of the VR, so it feels real! There are different apps that work with the VR. One of my favorites is Milk. In the Milk app you can go to Six Flags and ride roller coasters. I dare you not to flinch In this 360 expericene. Another favorite is the Street View. You can visit any neighborhood on Google maps. Walk down the roads of the neighborhood you grew up in. What a nostalgic trip! Another one of my favorites was the Netflix app. That’s right; you can sign into your actual Netflix account and watch movies within the planetarium-like experience. Visit the app store just make for VR games.

The Oculus Gear VR is free when you preorder the S7 or S7 edge. The one thing in life we never forget are experiences. The Oculus Gear VR will let you experience the future. So call us today at 616-965-8550 to order your free gift with the Galaxy S7.

Not Enough iCloud Storage?

BASIC-Communications-Logo-1

One of the most annoying notifications to pop up on your iPhone is, “Not Enough Storage, This iPhone cannot be backed up because there is not enough iCloud storage available, You can manage your storage in the Settings”. Although this is a simple fix, it can be frustrating and confusing for cell phone IMG_0093users. We are here to help you understand and resolve what’s happening to your phone. First, notice that the notification says “iCloud storage”. There are 2 types of storage when it comes to phones. Internal (inside the phone) and external storage (outside of phone, i.e. cloud).  This notification is telling you that your external storage is full. As of right now, iPhone’s internal storage options are 16, 64, and 128 ggabytes and iCloud storage (external) is used as a back up of your information. For example, all of those pictures you took at your son’s high school graduation are stored on your device and in “the Cloud”. If you were to lose your phone, those pictures are still available in iCloud. Also, iCloud backs up messages, recent calls, contacts, etc. Just like your phone, there is a limit to how much information you can have in the cloud. Apple’s iCloud automatically gives you a free 5 gigabytes of iCloud space. So the big question is, how do I clear up storage? Go into your settings> then iCloud> Storage

Now you can see your total amount of used and available storage. Next click > Manage Storage. Here you should see all your devices and back ups. Click on old phones that you don’t own anymore to delete that backup. Next click on the backup that says “This Phone”. Here you can see what your phone is backing up and note which app or service is using the most of your space.

Next, there is an option to “Change Storage Plan” where you will be given the option to purchase more iCloud backup space. HINTS: If most of the data in your backup are pictures then use a free cloud applications that can back up photos, such as Google PhotosDropbox, and Shoebox. Otherwise, go ahead a buy extra external iCloud space, which is well worth the 99 cents for 50 gigabytes. Not techy? Come to BASIC and allow your BASIC PCS representative to assist you.
